Supporting lifelong journeys of reflection, connection, and exploration

Generations of Brown students have been the architects of their own academic journeys. With the new Center for Career Exploration, we’re also empowering them to become the architects of their own career journeys, equipping them with the skills needed to navigate a lifetime of opportunities.

Anchored by the University’s student-centered Open Curriculum, the center looks to build on Brown’s vast network of campus advisors, alumni, parents, and family members around the world who support students in their discovery. The new center will:

  • Expand personalized advising and launch industry-specific career exploration programs in multiple areas of interest including finance and consulting, arts and media, tech and tech ventures, science and engineering, and careers in the common good
  • Partner with campus employers to connect what students are learning and doing through campus jobs with potential career pathways—impacting more than 5,000 students each year
  • Make enhancements to BrownConnect, a uniquely Brown digital platform that links students with the worldwide network of Brown alumni and parents, offers mentoring resources, and provides access to summer internships and research experiences
  • Grow partnerships with employers to expand job and internship opportunities

The idea is that career exploration can begin on the first day that a student arrives at Brown and can parallel and complement their academic exploration. We’re investing in these resources so that each and every student is supported throughout their time at Brown with both mentoring and opportunities to explore career options and pilot multiple future pathways, so they will have an expansive view of all that is possible for their lives after Brown.

In order to make internships and research opportunities accessible to all students, donor-funded Summer/Semester Projects for Research, Internship, Teaching and Service (SPRINTS) allow students to accept low-paid/unpaid internships or participate in research, curriculum development, or service projects.

By aligning career preparation with Brown’s academic strengths, community engagement, hands-on learning, and intellectual exploration, thousands of Brunonians will access specialized career counseling, form relationships with industry mentors and preferred employers, develop professional skills, and learn about a wider range of career possibilities.

Your gift to the BrownTogether campaign will enable undergraduates, graduate students, and recent alumni to reflect, connect, and explore meaningful career pathways and tap into a community of support for their long-term career development.
