To ensure a safe and seamless experience for all, the University has implemented a ticketing system for Commencement and Reunion Weekend. All attendees, including medical reunion alumni, must register and carry appropriate identification. Certain campus areas, including the College Green, Simmons Quad, and Front Green, will have controlled access during specific times. Attendees should be prepared to carry their identification (e.g. access badge, wristband, ticket, etc.) when attending events in these areas.

Your Reunion access badge will serve as your official identification throughout the weekend, including the Procession. All medical reunion alumni invited to Reunion should register through myBrown to receive their Reunion access badges.

You will pick up your access badges at check-in, located in the Herbert M. Kaplan Atrium in The Warren Alpert Medical School building (222 Richmond Street). Attendees will print their own access badge(s) using self-serve printing kiosks. 

Any guests who attend under your name will also need to register to receive their official access badges. Add any of your guests under your name during registration. They will receive their access badges at check-in.

Amit R. T. Joshi ’97 MD’01 was a member of the Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME), earning his bachelor’s degree in music and medical degree with distinction. He trained in surgery at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and completed a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at Northwell Health. Dr. Joshi is the associate dean for graduate medical education and professor of surgery at Cooper Healthcare and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, New Jersey. He serves as editor-in-chief of the American Board of Surgery’s SCORE curriculum and, in 2025, received an honorary fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, and induction into the American College of Surgeons’ Academy of Master Surgeon Educators. A general surgeon specializing in hernia repair, Dr. Joshi focuses his research on surgical resident recruitment and curriculum development, and has authored more than 150 scientific manuscripts and presentations. 

Harold Varmus, M.D. is the Lewis Thomas University Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine and is a co-recipient of the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for studies of the genetic basis of cancer. He is a senior associate member of the New York Genome Center, where he helps to develop programs in cancer genomics, and an adjunct professor at Columbia University, where he teaches an undergraduate course about the scientific enterprise. Dr. Varmus was the director of the National Cancer Institute from 2010 to 2015, the president of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center from 2000 to 2010, and director of the National Institutes of Health from 1993 to 1999.

He is a member of the National Academies of Sciences and Medicine, is involved in several initiatives to promote science and health in developing countries, and has served on many advisory groups for academic, governmental, philanthropic, and commercial institutions. He is the chair of the World Health Organization’s Science Council and a co-chair of the National Academies’ Committee on Science, Technology, and Law.
