Stories of Impact
Because my financial aid package meets my needs without placing the heavy burden of an expected parental contribution on my family, I have been granted an incredible gift: time. Instead of taking on multiple jobs solely to cover my educational expenses, I have the profound privilege of focusing entirely on my studies. This support gives me the freedom to engage deeply with my coursework in computer science and international and public affairs.”
Financial aid not only opened the doors for me to study at Brown, it also opened a path for me to walk in to achieve my career goals. At the end of my first year, I applied to the SPRINT UTRA program at Brown. I was successfully matched with the Chellappa lab, where I will be exploring how NAD [nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide] metabolism shapes microbial ecosystems over the summer holiday. It has always been a dream of mine to work in a lab and contribute to research during my undergraduate studies, and I am grateful that I will be joining a lab this summer.

Since arriving on campus, I’ve spontaneously picked up crocheting and joined a crafting club, and I began volunteering with an initiative that brings stress-reducing benefits through animal companionship. I’ve explored groups like the video game music ensemble, where I even arranged a piece for performance, and tried something entirely new to me, like aerial acrobatics. Through these experiences and more, I’ve been exposed to research and ideas I never knew existed.
