What is an Alumni Trustee?

Chosen for their commitment to Brown and its mission of education and research, our Alumni Trustees are dedicated to ensuring their work will produce an intellectual environment that will shape the careers and lives of generations to come. As members of the Corporation of Brown University, they provide strategic oversight for the operation of the University, approve leadership appointments, set annual budgets, and guide long-term planning.

Alumni Trustees represent a broad range of professions, experiences, and perspectives, and are selected through a variety of processes—including elections. A full one-third of Brown’s 42 trustees take office through annual all-alumni elections, held in the spring. Most Alumni Trustees serve six-year terms, beginning July 1.

Two of these elected positions are reserved for New Alumni Trustees—recent graduates elected by their peers to serve staggered three-year terms.
