The Student Experience

For Emma Danes MD’28, the Brown Medical Annual Fund has already made a lasting difference.

During her first year, Emma received her white coat at the Ceremony of Commitment to Medicine, worked alongside a physician-mentor at a community-based practice through the Doctoring course, and is now conducting summer research on melanoma risk factors.

Each of these experiences has helped me grow as a student, a future physician, and a member of the Brown medical community. I carry these moments with me as I continue to learn what it means to care deeply, think critically, and serve others through medicine.

A highlight of Emma’s year happened this past May when she met alumni from the first-ever medical school class during their 50th Reunion. As part of her role as a student ambassador, she took them on a tour of the medical school.

“Their warmth, humor, and wisdom offered a powerful glimpse into the lifelong impact of a Brown medical education. It reminded me that medicine is not just about the training we receive—it’s about the community we join and the legacy we carry forward.”

Thanks to donor support of the Brown Medical Annual Fund, students like Emma are not only learning the science of medicine—they are becoming part of a lasting tradition of care, service, and connection.

Reunion Giving

Medical Reunions are a meaningful time to honor your class and pay it forward to today’s students. This year, Reunion classes ending in 0s and 5s raised $251k through their class gifts to the Brown Medical Annual Fund—directly fueling scholarships, research, and clinical experiences.

We extend a special thank you to the milestone 25th and 50th Medical Reunion classes, who together raised $125k. Additionally, the 50th Medical Reunion class established a new medical scholarship, creating a lasting legacy for future physicians.
