Brown University Military-Affiliated Community (BUMAC) brings together Brown’s growing community of student and alumni veterans, ROTC members, supporters, and those interested in military affairs.

Originally known as the Brown University Veterans Alumni Council, this group evolved into BUMAC in September 2024 to reflect its broader mission more accurately. BUMAC plays a vital role in raising awareness of military-related news and activities at Brown. Through a strong partnership with the University’s Office of Military-Affiliated Students (OMAS), this community fosters connections and mentoring opportunities for veterans and Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) students and supports programming opportunities.

Members of BUMAC are committed to building a strong, supportive network for alumni and students. Their dedication is central to the community’s mission, actively engaging alumni interested in military affairs and promoting related initiatives at Brown.

Military-Affiliated Mentoring

Through this mentoring community, military-affiliated alumni support undergraduate and graduate students who are U.S. veterans or are participating in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). These alumni mentors help students navigate their journeys from service to student to civilian by advising on topics ranging from broadening their networks, learning about post-graduation military experience, and navigating their chosen careers.

How to Become a Mentor

University Veterans Initiative

In November 2019, President Paxson announced an exciting new veterans initiative, which aims to increase financial aid for student veterans, double the number of veterans on campus in the next three to five years, and extend its need-blind admission policies to include prospective students who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Learn more about this initiative and make a gift to support veterans financial aid, or email alumniveterans@brown.edu for more information.
