Christopher Demas MD’21 had a bold, creative idea for his summer research project. He was going to need time. He was going to need to learn new skills. And, he was going to need colored markers.
With a summer research stipend from the Warren Alpert Medical School, Demas was able to bring together his love of drawing and his interest in medical education to create “Illustrations of Histology.” Through a series of video lectures, Demas used illustrations to provide detailed yet digestible explanations of biological tissue. The videos helped first-year medical students quickly understand and review material for a fundamental course that covers the organization and structure of tissues in the human body. During the Summer Research Showcase in October 2018, Demas’ project was given the top prize in the medical education category.
Supported by the Brown Medical Annual Fund, summer research stipends inspire students like Christopher Demas to think creatively about challenges in medicine. Help bolster research and other enrichment opportunities for today’s medical students by supporting the Medical Annual Fund today.
