Brown Traditions: Chicken Finger Fridays

No, it's not the running of the bulls in Pamplona. It's the running of the undergrads in the Ratty.

For years, rumors have flown that plucky Brown students are inviting Gordon Ramsay to the culinary underbelly they affectionately (and sometimes not so affectionately) call the Ratty.

While Ramsay and other celebrity chefs have so far failed to explore that particular campus phenomenon, it won’t be long now till the world discovers what goes down at the V-Dub on Friday lunches...

After a long week of more mature, complex meals, like shepherd’s pie or Mexicali macaroni bake (remember that?), students on every quad give a collective cheer: TGICFF (Thank Goodness It’s Chicken Finger Friday).

Between the hours of 11:00 am and 2:30 pm, the doors to the V-Dub open to the throngs. Chicken fingers are the ultimate leveler, the most democratic of cuisines.  Students of all ages and backgrounds come together for this weekly feast—only to be ineluctably divided again as they select a dip: honey mustard or barbeque sauce?
