Volunteer Opportunities

The Brown University Community Council serves as a University-wide representative forum for discussion, debate, and advisory recommendations.

It considers and advances questions on a wide spectrum of issues and concerns, including the University community policy, the governing of the University, and issues related to the overall welfare of the University. The council can also make recommendations on such matters to the appropriate decision-making bodies or appropriate officers of the University, attract new participants, and strengthen bonds with past participants.

Requirements:

  • Attendance at and/or participation in regular meetings

Commitment:

Faculty, staff, and alumni members serve staggered three-year terms. Student members serve staggered two-year terms. Terms begin July 1 and end June 30.

How To Get Involved:

For Alumni: The four alumni seats on the council are appointed by the University president.

For Students: There are five undergraduate, three graduate, and two medical student seats on the council. Among the student council members are the presidents of the Undergraduate Council of Students, the Graduate Student Council, and the Medical Student Senate. Each year, these student bodies appoint members to any of their respective vacant positions.
