We are excited to announce the start of a new chapter in the community’s evolution with the establishment of the Brown Women’s Network Leadership Committee. The Leadership Committee will guide everything from event strategy to communications to ensure that the Brown Women’s Network community continues to grow and thrive.

Election and Selection Process

The deadline for all nominations is Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Executive Committee:

Executive Committee leaders are elected positions. You can nominate yourself or others for an Executive Committee position. A selection committee will select the nominees to move forward on the ballot. For those nominated who are not selected to move forward in the election process, your nomination will be considered for the Program and Initiative Committee. The Executive Committee will be elected for a 2-year term beginning service in May 2025 continuing through June 30, 2027 for all positions except President-Elect. (See President-Elect term information for more details.)

Program and Initiative Committee:

The Program and Initiative Committees are appointed positions. A selection committee will determine appointments to the Program and Initiative Committee. You can nominate yourself for any of the committee positions. The Program and Initiative Committee terms will be elected for approximately a 2-year term. Service will begin in August 2025 and continue through June 2027. 

Executive Committee Positions

Leaders are elected into these positions. They are responsible for establishing and coordinating the big-picture strategy for the Brown Women’s Network. Chairs/Co-Chairs oversee the efforts of specific Program and Initiative committees. 

Ideal candidates:

  • Have leadership experience in professional or volunteer capacities
  • Are engaged with the Brown Women’s Network or the Brown University community
  • Have a collaborative mindset and are comfortable leading others
  • Can commit to 8+ hours of time monthly to advance network initiatives

The President serves as the chief executive officer of the Brown Women’s Network (BWN) Executive Committee and is responsible for managing the committee's operations and helping the committee set strategic direction. This role involves organizing monthly meetings, setting the agenda for those meetings, and leading the discussions. The President acts as the primary liaison with the Brown Alumni Relations staff. Additionally, the President collaborates with and supports committee members to ensure that the BWN successfully implements engagement strategies to achieve its annual strategic goals.

Term: 2 Years
Time Commitment: 10-12 hours per month

The President-Elect will provide close support to the President of the Brown Women’s Network (BWN), with the expectation of succeeding them once their term concludes. Additionally, the President-Elect will oversee the BWN’s communications strategy and lead the Communications Committee. This committee is responsible for keeping the community informed about BWN events, highlighting the achievements of community members, and sharing news and updates regarding the Brown community. The President-Elect commits to stepping into the role of President after the current President’s term is completed.

Term: 4 Years (2 years as President-Elect and 2 years as President)
Time Commitment: 10-12 hours per month

The Secretary serves as the structural backbone of the Brown Women’s Network (BWN) Executive Committee. This role involves taking minutes of all Executive Committee meetings and collaborating with the BWN President to schedule the time and date of these meetings. Additionally, the Secretary works closely with the BWN President and President-Elect to ensure the Executive Committee stays organized and focuses on overarching goals and administrative details.

Term: 2 Years
Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month

The Treasurer is responsible for managing the financial affairs of the Brown Women’s Network. This role involves working closely with the President to review incoming revenue and outgoing expenses while maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records. The Treasurer also provides guidance on the budgets for the Committee’s events and operational costs, offering recommendations on allocating funds. Additionally, this position will support the philanthropic strategy of the Brown Women’s Network.

Term: 2 Years
Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month

The Philanthropic Strategy Co-Chair’s role is to encourage philanthropy within the broader Brown Women’s Network community by educating members about key philanthropic initiatives at Brown and looking for opportunities to support philanthropic participation.

The Engagement Strategy Co-Chairs will collaborate with the Executive Committee and the Engagement Strategy Committee to create an engagement strategy for the Brown Women’s Network. This strategy will emphasize virtual community events, regional in-person engagement activities, and peer-to-peer mentorship programming.

Term: 2 Years
Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month

The Strategic Partnerships Co-Chairs will lead the committee focused on developing a stakeholder management strategy that fosters strong relationships with current female-centered student organizations, campus identity centers, affinity group communities, and the Women’s Launch Pad program.

Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month

Program and Initiative Committees

The members of the Program and Initiative committees are appointed by a nominations committee. These appointed leaders support the implementation of communications, engagement events, and philanthropy initiatives throughout the year, as well as the Brown Women’s Network’s relationship with strategic partners. This is a great opportunity if you are looking to start your volunteer journey or have significant volunteer experience.

Ideal candidates are:

  • Committed to supporting the development and growth of the Brown Women’s Network 
  • Interested in growing your engagement with the Brown community
  • Have a collaborative mindset and ability to work well with a team 
  • Can commit to 6+ hours of time monthly to advance network initiatives

The Communications Strategy Committee is tasked with keeping the community informed about Brown Women’s Network events, highlighting their achievements, and sharing news and updates within the Brown community. This committee will develop and execute a communication and marketing plan that includes regular newsletters, social media engagement, event marketing emails, and website updates. Additionally, the Communications Strategy Committee will collaborate closely with the Engagement Strategy Committee and the Executive Committee to coordinate marketing and engagement strategies.

Term: 2 Years* 
*Formal work will not start until ~August 2025 after Exec. Leadership is fully on-boarded

Time Commitment: 6-8 hours per month

The Engagement Strategy Committee is tasked with creating an engagement strategy for the Brown Women’s Network. This strategy will focus on virtual community events, regional in-person engagement activities, and peer-to-peer mentorship programming. The committee will make strategic decisions regarding the timing and sequencing of events. Members will collaborate closely with the Communications Strategy Committee to coordinate event marketing and budgetary matters with the President and Treasurer. Additionally, they will be responsible for organizing event programming and logistics.

Term: 2 Years* 
*Formal work will not start until ~August 2025 after Exec. Leadership is fully on-boarded

Time Commitment: 6-8 hours per month

The Strategic Partnerships Committee will develop and implement a stakeholder management strategy that fosters strong relationships with current female-centered student organizations, campus identity centers, affinity group communities, and the Women’s Launch Pad program.
